Move a whole show, fix links and manage media

A project file is the running order and settings. To move the show to another Mac, take its media too.

Collect a complete copy

  1. Choose Project → Collect and save project copy….
  2. Choose where the new copy should go, then confirm Collect and save copy.
  3. Wait for collection to finish. It creates a folder named after the project with _collected at the end.
  4. Transfer that whole folder, including its project file and Media folder. Do not send just the .starstruck file.
  5. Open the collected project from its new location. On another Mac, choose that Mac's audience screen and audio destination again.

Collection copies the linked media; it leaves your current working project and original files alone. Fix missing media before collecting the show.

Find a file that has moved

  1. If a project reports missing media, choose Locate file… for one item, or Locate folder… for a folder of moved files.
  2. Select the correct file or folder in Finder's file window.
  3. Review the old and proposed locations in the app, then choose Relink and open when they are right.

Relinking means telling the project where its original media now lives. If you cannot find it yet, Remain offline opens the project with those tiles unavailable.

You can come back through Settings → Media & Storage → Relink missing media…. The button is greyed out when nothing is missing.

Make an optimised video copy

Optimise media is optional. Open a video's tile settings and choose Optimise media. Read the confirmation before continuing: playback and output stop while it works.

A successful job creates an _optimised file beside the original, then updates every tile in this project using that source. The original and your tile settings are kept. Make room for the new file; it can be larger than the original.

If Output was On before the job, it returns to the selected available Loop afterwards unless you have pressed Off. It never resumes an Insert. If the selected screen or Loop is unavailable, it stays Off and tells you.

If optimisation fails or you cancel it, the original links stay in use. Save the project after a successful change. Still-image Loops do not need video optimisation.

Clear temporary files

Settings → Media & Storage shows the project's media and app temporary files. Clear temporary files removes disposable app cache, not your linked originals, optimised copies or collected show media.
