Install the app
The release installer is being prepared. These steps are for when it is supplied.
Replacing an older copy? Quit it first and answer any Save / Don’t Save / Cancel question before dragging the new app across. Your project and video files stay separate from the app.
- Open the downloaded file ending in .dmg. A window opens with Starstruck Video Playout and an Applications shortcut.
- Drag the Starstruck Video Playout icon onto Applications. Wait for the copy to finish.
- Close that window and eject the disk image in Finder. Finder is the Mac's file window, opened from the blue smiling-face icon in the Dock.
- Open Applications in Finder, then double-click Starstruck Video Playout. Open this Applications copy whenever you run a show.
Know the two sides of the screen
Loops are your holding pictures: a video that repeats, a still image that stays up, or Black. Inserts are the videos you play once, such as an opener or a film during the show.
A tile is the clickable box for a Loop or Insert. Loops are on the left; Inserts are on the right. The bottom of the window tells you what is playing and what happens next.
The app opens silently with Output Off. Loading a project does too. Nothing goes to the audience screen until you choose it.
Do one complete test before the show
- Connect the audience screen and set it up as a separate, extended display. Choose it in Settings → Video Output.
- Add a Loop and an Insert. The Adding and arranging media page takes you through this.
- Set up sound in Settings → Audio Output. Check the audience speakers and laptop silence before continuing.
- Click the Loop, then Output On. Click the Insert and let it finish. It should return to your selected Loop.
- Try Black, then Off. Save the project from Project → Save.
